I got the idea of doing lots of push ups from Jesse Itzler in his book Living With a Seal. Lots of good advice but all the push ups just stuck with me. Another idea from David Goggins (Seal) is that when you’re done, you’re only at 40% of what your body is capable of doing. Thats just the limit that we put on ourselves. So 143 pushups every day, no excuses.
All at once, or broken up throughout the day?

I keep a stack of 7 quarters to keep track and throughout the day I’ll do 20 at a time with the first set being 23.
